Our History

How Everything

STARTED

Our story starts with the founder and owner of Casa Álvarez, José Trinidad Álvarez. Our father migrated from Jalisco, México to the US at the age of 15 chasing the American dream. His humble beginnings started as a dishwasher at Denny’s Restaurant in Beverly Hills. His passion for cooking only grew with time as he moved on to work at the Gates of Spain Restaurant in Santa Monica and the Proud Bird Restaurant in LAX.

He married our beautiful mother, Celia Sanchez in 1969 and together began this journey. Through struggles, hard work, and perseverance our parents strived to obtain the elusive American dream. In 1987 they opened their first restaurant in Ontario, CA along with us, their four children, Gustavo, Luz Teresa, Verónica, and Elva. Our first establishment is the now well-known and loved; Casa Sanchez which originally started as Casa Alvarez in Ontario.

After opening Casa Alvarez in Ontario, our father taught his brothers his now famous recipes. With his blessing, our uncles went on to open Casa Alvarez restaurants in Dodge City, Garden City and Liberal, Kansas. Two more opened in Denver and Lafayette, Colorado.

In 1991, we opened our second southern California locale in Rowland Heights. We have been here at this location proudly serving you for the past 25 years. It has been our pleasure to serve you. In their free time our parents travel to and from México regularly. Our mother Celia helps run a non-profit soup kitchen for the sick and elderly in Jalisco, México. Our father José Trinidad hobbies include raising cattle, tending to his ranch; “Hacienda el Aguacate” and of course, testing out new recipes.
